Empowering Youth Through Martial Arts
Beyond The Mat proudly supports Fight for a Kid, a social project dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged children across Brazil. Many of these kids grow up in poverty, often lacking access to basic necessities like food, clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.
The project currently operates in the favelas of Curicica and Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro, as well as in Macapá, in northern Brazil. Its mission is to give these children and adolescents a chance to rewrite their future—helping them discover discipline, purpose, and confidence through the practice of martial arts.
For many, martial arts becomes more than just a sport—it’s a path away from the cycles of drugs, violence, and poverty that surround them. By training, these young people uncover their own potential and begin to choose a better way forward for themselves and their families.
In Brazil, over 40% of children under 14 live in poverty—around 17.3 million young people—with 13.5% living in extreme poverty. Regions like Rio de Janeiro are hit hardest, where street life often becomes a daily struggle for survival. Projects like Fight for a Kid bring hope, structure, and a sense of belonging to a generation that deserves better.
Together, we can help empower the next generation—one round at a time. 🥋
